Two of the fifteen stamps had a baseball theme. "Shot Heard Round The World;" celebrating the walk-off home run hit by New York Giants outfielder Bobby Thomson off Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca at the Polo Grounds on October 3, 1951, to win the National League pennant.

The other stamp, "World Series Rivals," celebrating the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodger battles of the 1950s. From 1947 to 1956, the two rivals would face-off in six World Series, four of them played in the 1950s. The Dodgers only winning once in 1955.

Designed by Howard Paine, and illustrated by Dean Ellis the "World Series Rivals" 33¢ postage stamp features; a PM10 Yankees American League Champions, stadium pin, and a PM10 Dodgers, National League Champions, stadium pin, separated by a NYC subway token. The stamp also features Ebbets Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers in the background.

The backprint on the stamp reads: "Between 1949 and 1956, the New York Yankees and their crosstown rivals, the Brooklyn Dodgers, met five times in the World Series. 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955, and 1956. The Dodgers won once, in 1955., Celebrate the Century -1950s"

The First day cover pictured above features the artwork of Fred Collins. It depicts Duke Snider and Mickey Mantle with Yankee Stadium in the background, and a Dodgers vs Yankees pennant at the top. Making First Day Covers his life's work, Collins hand painted FDCs have been produced since 1978. An involved member of the philatelic community, his reputation for superb quality has continued to grow.

The hand painted Bevil FDC pictured below depicts the "Major League's greatest catcher during the fifties" Yogi Berra. Artist Kendal Bevil, is one of the most popular cachet makers, producing first-day covers since 1989.
